Coup de Grâce drags you through the twisted tunnels of liminal spaces but don’t expect this novella to simply be about trying to escape a claustrophobic, shifting labyrinth. This is just as much about navigating the bleak, depressive spirals that far too many of us resonate with. And although this is definitely depressing, loading up a sadness that stays with you for days, it mirrors mental health in the fact that there are still brief moments of humor and levity.
Coup De Grâce is visceral, claustrophobic, hallucinatory, brutal, but like all my favorite horror books so. damn. beautiful. It honestly felt like stepping on broken glass a million times but being unable to stop.
Pick this up if you’re into:
Liminal spaces
Horror with heart
Strong mental health representation
Queer representation
Juicy body horror
Existential dread But it here!
