For anyone interested in joining the authors at Uncomfortably Dark Horror, our submission periods will be opening soon.


Please see the posted guidelines below for submission information. There will be TWO submission periods. Be sure to submit to the correct period. Be sure to follow all guidelines, do not submit early or late, those submissions will be ignored.

*Marginalized voices include all minority and LGBTQ+ authors. Only these voices may submit during the marginalized submission period in October.


 

Uncomfortably Dark 2025/2026 General Submission Guidelines


Important Note- Please follow all guidelines and only submit during the open period. All other submissions will be ignored, including early or late submissions.

Marginalized voices submissions: October 15-18

Regular submissions: November 15-18


What are we looking for?

Novels, novellas, collections Full manuscripts are preferred BUT Half manuscripts will be considered ONLY if they are accompanied by a full synopsis.


What are we NOT looking for?

CSA, paranormal romance, or erotica.


What format?

12 font - Times New Roman.

Double spaced.

NO formatting (except for chapter titles and scene breaks.

WORD DOC ONLY


Other Important Information

Novellas - up to 35K

Novels - up to 100K

Collections - 50K-75K preferred.


  • Simultaneous submissions allowed-you must tell us if your submission is accepted elsewhere.


  • Only one submission per author.


  • All submissions will receive an email of receipt within 24 hours.


  • Please allow a minimum of 90 days for an email of acceptance or rejection.



 

Blood Moon 2025/2026 Poetry Submission Guidelines


Important Note-Please follow all guidelines and only submit during the open period. All other submissions will be ignored, including early or late submissions.


Marginalized voices submissions: October 15-18

Regular submissions: November 15-18


What are we looking for?

Poetry collections that show the dark side of life - emotional, psychological, etc. Experimental is allowed


What are we NOT looking for?

CSA, paranormal romance, or erotica.


What format? 12 font Times New Roman. Double spaced. NO formatting (except for chapter titles and scene breaks. WORD DOC ONLY.


Other Important Information

FOR FULL POETRY COLLECTIONS: maximum of 125 pages


FOR POETRY CHAPBOOKS: maximum of 35 pages (will be published in the summer of 2025 and 2026).


REPRINTS - up to 25% of a previously published collection UNLESS self-published then 100% is allowed.

  • Simultaneous submissions allowed- you must tell us if your submission is accepted elsewhere.


  • Only one submission per author.


  • All submissions will receive an email of receipt within 24 hours.


  • Please allow a minimum of 90 days for an email of acceptance or rejection.


 

Other Things to Consider:


  • We are a very small press, run by Candace Nola and Christina Pfeiffer. Please be patient with us.

  • We will respond to every submission email within 24 hours of receipt to acknowledge your submission.

  • We will be looking to sign authors for both 2025 and 2026.

  • We will be selecting multiple authors from BOTH submission periods for Blood Moon & Uncomfortably Dark.

  • We will be looking for authors willing to be involved in the process, meaning responding to emails, helping to promote your work, and sharing the posts and graphics we create to do such.

  • We will be looking for authors that uphold the mission of Candace and Uncomfortably Dark, Kindness in the Dark, is her motto and we stand behind that here. We will not tolerate anything less from our team or our authors.
