Happy Saturday! This week is a super short one, but I really love it. The ghost here seems pretty handy if you ask me, and I went to college in the area, so I spent quite a few years living within eyeshot of this location!

The New London Ledge Lighthouse was built in 1909. It was built to accommodate the shipping traffic in the area. The structure was requested by the affluent locals who wanted the lighthouse to complement their homes.
In 1938, a nasty hurricane destroyed many homes. The lighthouse survived. Waves did make it to the second floor, and the keepers had to go to the lantern room to say safe.
In 1987, the last keepers left the lighthouse because it became automated.
In 2015, the lighthouse’s ownership changed to the New London Maritime Society. They are involved in the funding and preservation of the lighthouse, and they’re the ones who provide tours.
So where do the hauntings come in? Well, “Ernie” is quite infamous at this lighthouse. Allegedly, he found out that his wife was having a fair with the captain of the Block Island Ferry and decided to leave with him. Ernie decided to take his own life and slit his own throat. Because there is no official record of this, there are also people who believe that it’s really a construction worker who fell off the roof after being pranked by coworkers.
Reported paranormal activity has been:
Tools disappearing then showing back up.
The floors being freshly washed.
Things being rearranged.
Polished brass out of nowhere, clean windows.
Paint cans open with brushes,
Cups can be seen moving in real time.
Honestly, he sounds kind of handy if you ask me, lol.
There’s another infamous ghost at this location. She is known as the lady on the ledge. This story is about a couple who were bringing their daughter from New Jersey to Massachusetts in 1914. Their boat got caught in a really bad storm and capsized. The keeper at the lighthouse was able to help the parents, but when he woke up the next morning, they had vanished. A few days later, workers on the beach said that rescued a woman who said her parents had been lost at sea. To this day, they believe that they see a woman looking for her parents.
So, tell me. Have you heard of this location before? Have you been there? Would you go? Let me know in the comments. And as always, if you do decide to visit here or any haunted location, respect the property, respect the owners, respect the residents... living or dead.
