VINTAGE PAPERBACK REVIEW OF THE MONTH
CABAL

Back in the 90s I was watching Nightbreed and for some reason I paid attention to the credit and saw it was based on Cabal. I begged my mom to drive me an hour away to the bookstore so I could get a copy. I started reading it right away. And my love of the breed began.
This was my third time reading Cabal and it was better than I remember. The whole world of Midian is a fantastically terrifying fairy tale. From Decker to Baphomet, all the characters we meet are truly one of a kind. Each one horrifyingly beautiful in their own way, humans and breed alike. But at least the breed can't hide the fact that they're monsters.
I loved how Barker made you think about who the monsters actually are. Is the breed really the monsters? Or are the humans? I definitely sided with the breed.
The story has such a rhythm to it, almost like the heartbeat of Midian. Making it so the reader is in tune with the characters.
Barker has a way of making nightmares beautiful. Every page like a ticket on a bizarre train ride into the unknown that you just don't want to get off of.
