The lead, Roman Carruthers, reluctantly returns to his family’s Virginian home and business when his father is hospitalized. His sister runs the business and oversees their father’s care. The youngest brother has made some seriously bad life decisions, choices that impact his entire family, including Roman who sets aside his morality to lift his family out of trouble.

Meet Me at the Crossroads

From the title of Megan Giddings novel, Meet Me at the Crossroads, I jumped to an erroneous conclusion. (I pictured some crossroads devilish dealings.) Then, I read the book. In it, mysterious doors appear in various places around the globe. A religion builds around the one in Michigan, headed by the divorced father of twins.
When the separation occurred, the twin girls separated, one staying with Dad, the other leaving with Mom. These girls developed a very different relationship with the door, though they both hear an enticing voice coming from the other side. When one enters, the other must deal with her loss.
This book is focused less on the speculative nature of the phenomenon and more on the grief. It sprinkles the magical aspects into real-world experiences, making for an introspective, quiet story of sisterhood and self.
