Hello Readers and friends!

If you follow our Patreon, then you already saw the post last night as part of my weekly update, which, last nights was more of a rant about the week and state of things within the community, but then I went on to share a huge win for a horror creator that I deeply admire that reminded me, once more, of why I do this.

Yesterday was a rough day for me, honestly, it's been a rough week, but seeing good things happen to good people, especially people I am acquainted with, brings me so much joy that I remember why part of my platform is to help support other creatives.

That being said, the spotlight today is on Soren Narnia, his podcast, Knifepoint Horror, and his well-deserved accomplishment, his movie, The Lockbox.

I'm just going to share relevant portion of my post, without the rant, below:

But…..tonight, despite all the terrible things going on in this world, in the US, in this community, I got to see an absolute win by someone I’ve long admired. I was able to see someone else’s dream come full circle, from story, to podcast, to feature length film, and folks, they did a spectacular job.

Every now and again, I mention podcasts that I listen to, and there are four main ones that I have been a loyal listener of for at least ten years now; they are the NoSleep Podcast, Creepy, Tales to Terrify, and the Knifepoint Horror Podcast. They are all excellent in their own ways, fully produced, some have full ensembles and soundscapes, some have just awesome narrators and a few background effects, and one, one just (mostly) has Soren Narnia. I say mostly because it has only been in recent years that Soren has added a few other voices to certain tales and a bit more music and effects, but roughly 80% of his podcast going back ten years or more, is just him and his stories, on The Knifepoint Podcast.

One man. One subtly chilling story. One excellent voice that can both soothe you and convince you that you are hearing the most personal accounts of his real life experiences that one can almost forget that it’s a story. I’ve listened to all 127 episodes, and counting, several times each and still do. I know most by heart. I own his books. And I’ve even emailed with him a couple of times. He’s very kind, generous with his advice and his books, and just a genuine soul.

I think it was late last winter or maybe even early this year, that he announced one of his tales was being made into a movie. I was so absolutely delighted to hear his news as was his cult following of fans. Tonight, I got to watch The Lockbox. And I loved every minute of it. Edge of my seat, rapt attention, focused on what unfolded next. The scary scenes, holy fucking hell, actually scared me. Made my skin crawl, gave me chills, and had me glancing over my shoulder. This movie was so well done that I could barely contain my glee at the end. I almost applauded my empty living room.

I sat there for five minutes just relishing what was a truly scary movie, created from a chilling tale that one of the best writers I know wrote for his podcast. A writer long overdue for recognition. He is not in the indie world, not in this weird FB ecosystem that we all somehow think constitutes the end all be all of indie horror, he is just a guy, doing what he does, the best he can. Head down, pen to paper or voice to his microphone, spinning stories for his readers, and trying to make something awesome happen. And he did.

My hat is off to Soren, to the movie team, to the actors; hell of a job, folks.
