Another month almost over and I’m shocked that we are entering the last quarter of the year. It’s been insanely busy with 2 events this month and getting ready for another big Scares that Care Authorcon next week!
Lots to report and still lots for me to do this week so let’s get to the wrap-up!
EVENT NEWS
Uncomfortably Dark spent the first weekend of the month at the wonderful TBR con in Knoxville that was organized by Megan Stockton, her sister Morgan, and Megan’s awesome group of volunteers. Wrath James White, Ryan Harding, and Ronald Kelly were all Guests of Honor, and I was joined at the event by my mom and my oldest daughter at normal.
This was the second event of the year that Uncomfortably Dark was able to help sponsor and we gave away 100 adult swag bags and 60 for the kids! We had two tables for this event, one for the publishing house and the second for my solo imprint, Kindness in the Dark!
We had a lot of fun as always, and of course, we were joined by Uncomfortably Dark author, M Ennenbach. My adopted brother Eric Butler was beside us as usual, wheeling and dealing. We were surrounded by many of our amazing friends like Ronald Malfi, Rebecca Rowland, and RJ Roles and his lovey wife Jessica, the actual founders of the Books of Horror group! Angelique Jordonna, Stuart Bray, Jason Nickey, Tony Evans, Chisto Healy, Andrew Najberg, Matt Lutton, Lisa Brianne, Jay Bower and so many others!
On September 13, Uncomfortably Dark joined a dozen other authors at Brownsville Screams to help raise money for the library. This event was put on by Paul Synuria, II and his lovely wife Lisa, as well as the lovely Brownsville librarian Beth. We were joined at our table by Uncomfortably Dark author Brian Bowyer who revealed that this was his first live event! We had a really great time with everyone and got to hang out with Jonathan Janz, James Newman, Jeff Strand, Bridgett Nelson, Chase Will, Jeremy Megargee, Paul Lubaczewski, and more!
I also got to meet an absolutely incredible gothic baker, Nikk Alcaraz that was there to promote his new cookbook, Peculiar Baking, and his bakery that he will be opening in the area. Please check out his Instagram to see the gorgeous horror-esque cakes and pastries that he makes.
The vendors outside were amazing, both food and crafts. I had an incredible meatball from one vendor selling meatball hoagies, and it was the best thing I’ve eaten in ten years! My daughter got me an awesome dead baby doll head, gothic style from a vendor called The Wretched Child and her work was simply incredible to see. If you get the chance to come out next year, please be sure you do.
RELEASE NEWS
Our big release of the month is Come Out & Play, the debut Novel from Patrick Tumblety! This is such a great novel with an incredible twist on a classic trope that I never saw coming. Be sure to grab this one on godless now or pre-order on Amazon for its release on Sept. 30!
If you are coming to the Scares that Care Authorcon 4 in Saint Louis, you can meet Patrick there and get a signed copy along with some special swag that he had created just for this event!
SUBMISSIONS
Submissions are getting ready to open next month. This is your heads-up. Stay tuned for the special blog post tomorrow for those details. If you plan to submit, please be sure to follow all posted guidelines! There will be TWO SEPARATE PERIODS! The first is for marginalized voices, the second is general submissions.
