This series will be showcased on my Patreon first, every Friday this fall and winter, through early 2026. If you are not a patron, look for the new author spotlight to appear here on the blog every Saturday! These will be for incredibly talented, but lesser known, authors that truly deserve a spotlight on their work!

As is our mission here at Uncomfortably Dark, we want to be a community support and while how we do that may change over time, we will always find a way to shed light on the many wonderfully talented people in this space. Please check out their interviews, click on their links, and check out their work for yourself. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Sarah DeRosa is a newer name in the business and not only is she talented, but she is a delight to talk to, supportive of everyone around her, and is just a wonderfully kind human. If you have not read her yet, please do. She does lean into the extreme side of things so check your triggers.

MEET SARAH DEROSA

- Introduce yourself in 4 sentences or less.

My name is Sarah DeRosa, and I craft tales within the realms of both the Splatterpunk and Extreme Horror genres. My writing explores themes of brutality and taboo while advancing past traditional boundaries. I offer stories that push my readers to their limits with a raw and unapologetically graphic window into the delicate, yet complex human psyche modeled in my characters.

- Describe your style of writing in 2 sentences or less.

I would describe my writing style as one where anything goes and nothing is off limits. I blend a mixture of my own experiences and reality with the outrageous to give my words dimensional life on the page.

- What is your favorite type of horror to write?

My favorite type of horror to write is Splatterpunk because of the depth that compliments the depravity of the genre. It is truly limitless while still challenging an author to convey a message behind their work.

- What is your favorite book or character you’ve written so far?

My favorite book I have written so far is Mortifier, which features a psychotic killer clown named Mort and his rescued skunk buddy, Bulbous. Mort is a complex character that displays a spectrum of relatable human emotion on his journey to finding himself.

- Who are your top 5 favorite authors?

1. Lucas Mangum

2. Wrath James White

3. Kristopher Triana

4. R.J. Daly

5. Mique Watson

- What most inspires you to keep writing when imposter syndrome hits the hardest?

My support system constantly inspires me, but they are especially positive when they know that imposter syndrome is hitting me hard. A method I use independently is centering myself, practicing gratitude for my readers and the challenges I have overcome thus far, and setting my intentions for the journey ahead.

- Is there a genre, sub-genre, or trope you’ve not written, that you’d like to try?

I would like to venture into more of a Bizarro realm. It is an unrestrained genre where I believe I could allow my “weirdo” side to take over my writing entirely and truly explore the depths of my own imagination.

- What is your hope for your writing career for the next five years? As in where do see yourself?

In the next five years, my sole hope for my writing career is to remain happy, passionate, and forever growing. To me, being successful sprouts from the ability to expand one’s mindset and embrace change. I see myself as a stronger writer than I am today with a deeper understanding of the subgenres across horror literature.

- Pitch your current WIP in three sentences or less

Join the vigilante Father-daughter duo, Bryan and Skylar, as they return to blur the lines of justice once more with their endless sadistic punishment for online predators. Only this time, it gets personal as Skylar prepares to confront and deliver depraved acts of revenge to her abuser. What started as a trauma-bonding act of love will soon unravel as the limits are pushed and the tables are turned.

- Where can we find you online and where can readers see you next?

You can find me online at my website sarahderosahorror.com. I am also on TikTok and Instagram with the handle @sarahderosahorror and Facebook as Sarah DeRosa.

Author Bio:

Sarah DeRosa can be found deep within the Michigan forests, where she was raised. Her fascination with horror was ignited by the chilling tales of the Goosebumps series as well as the forbidden thrill of watching the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise at a very impressionable age.

When she is not weaving dark tales or delving into the depraved worlds of other writers, she prefers to get lost wandering the haunting wooded trails with her husky, Big Pollo. She has an affinity for indulging in the sinister delight of poutine and loves playing in the rain.
