Happy Saturday! Today we take a look at Hotel Monte Vista, one of Arizona's most haunted hotels!

ree

The Hotel Monte Vista opened in 1927. It was funded by taxpayers, making it one of the few hotels in America owned by the public. It has been a high destination for the Flagstaff area since it opened. Notable guests who have stayed at this hotel include John Wayne and Bing Crosby.  It is said to be Arizona’s most haunted hotel and is still very much open and alive today!

  • In 1929, the hotel became home to Mary Costigan’s radio show. This was a huge deal at the time. Mary was the second woman in the entire world to be given a radio broadcasting license.

  • The hotel also became known for having secret tunnels running through downtown Flagstaff during Prohibition.

  • It was in the 1940s that it became the go-to hotel for major celebrities, etc.

Hauntings:

  • In the 1940’s two female sex workers were picked up by a man staying in Room 306. He went on to murder both women and proceeded to dump them out of the third window onto the street below. People report feeling extremely uneasy and as though they're being watched while in this room. Men feel especially uncomfortable.

  • In 1970, three men robbed a bank nearby, and after escaping, they went to the cocktail lounge at the Monte Vista. While there, they realized that one of the men was wounded. He ended up bleeding to death at the bar. Reports state that people hear “Good Morning,” etc., upon their arrival at the location where this occurred.

  • In the 1980’s there was a long-term guest who was allegedly extremely odd. He was unproblematic; however, he would hang raw meat from his chandelier. It is unknown why he did this. But it was weird for his neighbors. When a maintenance worker went into the room after the guest had expired, he stated that all was well until he returned and the TV was on and all the blankets were torn apart. Other guests have reported the same.

  • Another popular room among paranormal hunters is Room 305. No crime took place, but a rocking chair is said to move by itself. It used to be the long-term room of an old woman who was said to stay in her room and sit in her rocking chair while looking out the window.

  • There is also said to be a phantom bellboy who knocks on doors saying, “Room service.”

  • Infant cries are heard in the basement, and this one seems to be unexplainable.

  • There is also a couple who is said to be seen dancing in the early hours of the morning in the cocktail lounge.

Nothing here seems to be malicious, but definitely creepy!!
