Welcome to Latham's Last Words, where I give you my last words on books I've enjoyed. It's Women in Horror Month and I wanted to mention a book that is amazing and isn't talked about enough, Keeping Adam's Secrets by AC Whitt.
As a mother, how far would you go to protect your child? In this book, that is exactly the question that gets asked.
This book escalated quickly and was a ride through crazy town that I didn't want to stay on, but I didn't want to get off of either. It's dark and terrifying. The author did an amazing job of showing Anna's turmoil and indecision on if she could keep her son's secrets. Mothers often say there isn't anything they wouldn't do for their child. But what happens when your child is cruel and unempathetic?
Not necessarily a slow burn, but the story does start out with a false sense of security. But you quickly realize that is just an illusion. You're absorbed in the madness that is Adam, and you're absorbed in Anna's internal conflicts and guilt.
It's an immersive book that I never see mentioned and I wish everyone would read it, especially those with children.
Once you start reading you won't be able to put it down, I promise you that.
