Friends! There is so much goodness this week I can’t even wait for you to start reading the reviews.
Let’s just jump into them!
EVERYTHING ENDLESS
By: Linda D. Addison and Jamal Hodge
Release: 4/14/25
Page count: 66
KU: No Hoopla: No
Synopsis: A poetic journey from the beginning of everything to the end of your time.
First line: “Darkness vomits light/…” - JH “Dark Bang”
Favorite lines: “… clouds swoon…” LDA “Outside Dimensions”
“Is the speed of dark instantaneous?/ In-between the mangled joints/ of light…” JH “The Speed of Dark”
“Emotions are worlds,/ within galaxies,/ of the self.” JH “Inner Space”
Thoughts: Holy shit. That phrase was uttered so many times as their words, phrases, and even whole poems were etched letter by letter on my soul. Every poem shakes you to the very core of every atom in your body. And how Addison and Hodge danced poetically cheek to cheek with this collection is easily the most stunning I have ever read. The imagery, and how significant and insignificant I felt at the same time… heavens above.
Rating: 10/5 (One of the highest ratings of the year so far)
SHAGGING THE BOSS
By: Rebecca Rowland
Release: 10/23/24
Page count: 46
KU: No Hoopla: No
Synopsis: An unnamed recent grad’s life changes when she talks to a man in line and is lead to the back room.
First line: “It’s not enough to be smart, or bloody gorgeous, or dirty rich.”
Favorite line: “You [redacted by reviewer because it’s a spoiler] people. It’s not the same as publishing people’s stories.” “Daniel smiled sardonically, ‘Isn’t it?’”
Thoughts: Rowland gives the reader so damn much to think about in 46 pages. A bit of an intellectual buffet, body horror, and sprinkle in a bit of feminine rage and protectiveness and you have a recipe for … well, you’ll see.
Rating: 4.5/5
Other recommendations: OPTIC NERVE
DC: A VERY DC HALLOWEEN
By: Various
Illustrated by: Various
Release:
Page count: 168
KU: No Hoopla: No
Synopsis: A bunch of cool writers, illustrators, letterers, and colorists get together and do some amazing work.
First line: “What the hell was that?”
Favorite line: “Confucius wrote: before a man embarks on a journey of revenge, that man must dig two graves. The first for his enemy. The second for himself. But sometimes… Just sometimes… one grave will do.”
Thoughts: GUYS! GUYS! Did you know Ed Lee, Bryan Smith, Wrath James White, Nick Cutter, and Brian Keene wrote scripts for this? Now you do! There are many great stories in here (Ed Lee, Bryan Smith - he made me like Harley Quinn, a feat in its own, and Brian Keene are the standouts). And such a vast array and amount of stories. It’s just a fun time all around.
Rating: 5/5
SLEEP
By Zander Cannon
Release:
Page count: 32
KU: No Hoopla: Yes
Synopsis: Jonathan doesn’t sleep like the rest of us - he… um… sleepwalks and gets up to shenanigans. When an old friend comes back to town, things get a bit more weird.
First line: “Hello?”
Favorite line: “Coming back to a town with one stoplight’s a downgrade, I won’t lie to you.”
Thoughts: Ooooooooh, friends. This is Easter Egg heaven. It’s coloring in monotone except red strategically placed for hints! What do the hints mean? I’m going to continue this series to find out.
Rating: 4.5/5
DC MEETS LOONEY TUNES: BATMAN/ELMER FUDD
By Tom King and Lee Weeks
Release:
Page count: 39 (with bonuses)
KU: No Hoopla: Yes
Synopsis: When Silver St. Cloud is murdered Elmer Fudd is on the case, looking for Bugs but is soon on the hunt for Bruce Wayne.
First line: “Sometimes the wain comes so hawrd you forwget you’ve ever been dwy.”
Favorite line: “Hi, boys.”
Thoughts: You aren’t going to believe how good this comic is! It’s clever, well-written, and feels like an old school comic. The Looney Tunes Easter eggs are smartly used (and not overdone). My only complaint is reading in Elmer’s voice can be tedious.
