Dog Food
By Peter Caffrey
‘Why do we dream?’
‘Why do we love?’
‘Do you renounce Satan and all his works?’
‘Why?’ the bald man shouted.
‘Why?’ the woman repeated.
This was my first read by Caffrey, but certainly not my last. I already filled my kindle with his books immediately after reading this one. It came as a recommendation, and the recommendation couldn’t have been better.
Caffrey sets up one hell of a story with this one, and it will live rent free in my head forever. At one point I actually asked myself… “Am I high? Is this book high? Is it both?” And honestly, I still don’t have an answer, lol. This book was a psychological mind penetration. I was so confused, but I knew I was supposed to be. And at times I was put in my feels. Other times I gagged. And even had a couple chuckles here and there.
This is one of those fever dream stories that’s hard to put into words and hard to review.
That being said, I give it the highest of praises and an easy five stars.

A Hodgepodge of Horror
By Tony Evans
I was lucky enough to meet and spend some time with Tony at STC this year. When we got back, I was fortunate enough to ARC an anthology he was in, and he definitely had a standout story for me. From there I decided to message him and ask for more recommendations of his own work. He told me about this collection, so I decided to give it a go.
A Hodgepodge of Horror couldn’t be a more perfect title. Because that’s exactly what you get with this collection. 14 stories, all very different, but all equally amazing. Tony really showed off his range with this collection while still staying true to his Appalachian and Folk Horror roots.
Normally I would take each story one by one, but with 14 that were all phenomenal, it’s simply impossible to do in a review length that anyone would read, lol.
If you’re a fan of Tony Evans writing, or even if you’ve never read him before, I HIGHLY recommend this collection. It’s great for any horror lover and touches on so many tropes.
Happy to give this one five gleaming stars!!
