Friends! We made it. A whole month of insane recommendations and reviews from Hoopla and Kindle Unlimited.
Have you found any winners? Completely disagree with me on a rating? Let me know! But don’t worry, I will continue to read and review one a week.
Let’s check in with SEXCASTLE, check out what a real skin suit is, get possessed by a demon, and travel across the world.
Enjoy!
SEXCASTLE
by Kyle Starks
Do you like over the top violence?
Cheesy (on purpose) one-liners?
80s hyper masculine action movies?
Well, have I got the graphic novel for you! SEXCASTLE is a bad mother - shut your mouth but goes on the straight and narrow after prison until an old “friend” pulls him back into the shenanigans he thought he left behind.
It’s Kyle Starks so you know it’s a banger. Sexcastle is tied for my favorite of his so far (tied with WHERE MONSTERS LIE). Can this guy write a bad story? Not in this gals opinion.
A HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND - 5/5.
LUCKY DEVIL
By Cullen Bunn
Do you like demons?
Exorcisms gone awry?
A shit ton of revenge?
Lucky for you, I read LUCKY DEVIL.
Stanley is a regular guy who recently found out his girlfriend is not as faithful as he assumed she was. Add to that his possession by a demon lord named Zed. Multiple the previous two negatives by a botched exorcism and you get 100% insanity.
Cullen is also one of my current hyperfixation graphic novel authors. Between the engaging and oftentimes relatable characters, snappy dialogue, and gritty illustrations, LUCKY DEVIL is a no-brain winner.
A HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND 5/5.
HARROW COUNTY
By Cullen Bunn
(Thank you to Jack Pfeiffer for this recommendation)
Oh, look another Bunn graphic novel.
Imagine being a witch and as you burn you curse those that set the fire. What’s the curse? That you will return for revenge in eighteen years. Suspiciously, the main character is about to turn eighteen… I mean, total coincidence, right? Blood will flow and be found before this omnibus is over.
Bunn gives us everything and then some in HARROW COUNTY; witches, mud creatures, haunts, ghosts, friendships, mob mentality, folklore, and something I just learn as a sub genre, backwoods or rural horror. This would be the perfect Halloween read.
Stellar from page 1 to 401.
A HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND 5/5.

SCREAMING PLANET Issue #1 - 2
By Alejandro Jodorowsky
One of my more difficult genres to read is hardcore sci-fi but this collection pushed me out of my comfort zone and I’m glad for it.
In this collection of tales, Jodo (as his fans call him) channels the unnerving spin of the Twilight Zone mixed with a Lovecraftian feel.
With the common thread of an asteroid thought out, the reader explores different parts of the world with many different consequences.
A definite recommend - 4/5.
