Title: THIS HOUSE IS TOTALLY HAUNTED

Synopsis: A ghost hunter, a cameraman, a medium, and a cult defector walk into a supposedly haunted house… what is really haunted is the question.
Favorite line: “They were drugged so they could be lobotomized.”
“It was a campy ass ghost.”
Thoughts: Mix NPR, a documentary, and a sprinkle of BLAIR WITCH and you have a recipe for insanity. Andy (played by Chad Westbrook Hinds) is a creepy man and I loved every time he was on screen. He killed it as this character. But the betrayal…s. Oh, lord. I won’t get over them anytime soon.
Actor to watch for: Claire - Kari Noelle and Lex - Alex Berg
Title: SUNSHINE GIRLS
Directed by: Madeleine Hicks
Country: US Run Time: 95 mins
Synopsis: A woman does her time in “service” so she can live the rest of her life as she chooses.
Favorite line: “You are taking enough cock block to kill an 800 pound cow.”
“Lesbians can be quite aggressive.”
Thoughts: If you want to watch the best film on motherhood, infertility, aging as a single woman without children, and what it means to bring life into the world but make it challenging and often horrific, this is the movie for you. Sure, the patriarchy is eluded to but more importantly, and quite honestly, the inability for other women to just let others be. Whether they choose life the “old” way or in other, less resource depleting ways, just let them breathe. Beautiful and haunting this needs to be on your TBW’ed ASAP.

Title: DEBONE
Directed by: Lee Dae-Han
Country: South Korea Run Time: 122 mins
Synopsis: A young boy must shed blood and suffer the consequences before reuniting with his mother. It only gets worse when he realizes what is happening to her.
Favorite line: “The place has changed. The rope bridge and monkey bars are gone. But still… this bench survived.”
“I can see in your eyes, you’re not a bad guy.”
Thoughts: First and foremost - fuck those gossiping neighbors. I have never viscerally hated characters so much while watching a film. They are such a dead-on commentary on the inability for rumors to stop and penance to be paid. The mom and Guy-tark are beautiful to watch as they make the viewer feel they are really family. This is a heavy film, but one that is needed. I was not emotionally OK after watching it and after three weeks, I know this film will forever be in my mind and part of my soul. Please, please watch this as soon as it is available on streaming.

PERSONAL - BEST FEATURE OF THE FESTIVAL
Title: GET THAT DICK
Directed by: Josh Stifter
Country: US Run Time: 72 mins
Synopsis: When a young boy runs away from a cult, Bugs is his only savior… that’s not a good thing.
Favorite line: “For someone who carries around their own darts, you suck.”
“I didn’t mean to break your window!” “Well, I mean to break your legs, you little shit.”
Thoughts: If Sean Ashley and Maximus Stifter aren’t cast together again, I’m going to scream. The way they can play each scene they are in off of each other like they do is astounding. It feels as though they have worked together for years - spoiler: they haven’t as Maximus is under 13. I hope to see both of these scamps in more films.
Actor to watch for: Roy - Maximus Stifter and Bugs - Sean Ashley
Title: LOOKY-LOO PART II
Directed by: Jason Zink
Country: US Run Time: 79 mins
Synopsis: Continuing on the way of the Looky-Loo, there are more deaths and blood still to shed.
Favorite line: “I am not a man. I am not an artist. I am the consequence.”
Thoughts: Hands down, the best “here’s what happened in the last movie” I have ever seen. Sure, the movie is for entertainment but also, it forces the viewer into a few uncomfortable questions one being: are we letting our defenses down when we are home because we feel safe? If so, what can we do to combat that?
Kills AND social commentary? Sign me up for every movie.
Actor to watch for: Looky-Loo - Jason Zink and Prostitute - Kansas Bowling
Title: HEAT SCORE
Directed by: Devin Burkosky and Robert Burkosky
Country: Canada Run Time: 101 mins
Synopsis: Vince, an aging stripper, must look for new avenues of cash in order to survive in the ever changing world.
Favorite line: “Step aside you fucking blow job.”
“My asshole’s so tight it would be like fucking a Chinese finger trap.”
Thoughts: I could not stop laughing during this film. Between Dean Lonsdale’s stripping and his farting, the script writing and the rag tag case of characters, I barely could breathe. And the twists and turns (not of the Vince variety) will keep the gasps coming when the laughter isn’t.

Title: THE BARN PART III
Directed by: Justin M. Seaman
Country: UK Run Time: 97 mins
Synopsis: Thirty years Josh has been trying to keep evil away from his town… but he can’t keep them safe forever.
Favorite line: “Get the baby a bottle. She definitely wants something with nipples.”
“Pumpkins don’t have feelings.”
Thoughts: I was worried I wouldn’t be able to jump in with it being the third installment but friends, I was wrong. Exposition is dripped in so it’s not overwhelming or annoying for those who have seen the previous movies. But the one part I have to shoutout from the rooftops is the ding dang kills and special effects. Kill after kill, the kills and gore gives every horror fan what they want - pure entertainment.

Directed by: Steven Hugh Nelson, Sohie Cacciola, Michael J. Epstein and Alex Hera
Country: US Run Time: 91 mins
Synopsis: Three final transmissions of individuals are brought together on a public access channel.
Favorite line: “I haven’t altered what you are about to watch, I just pressed play.”
“Since you’re watching this, you’re next.”
“This isn’t a home, Vivian. It’s a tomb.”
Thoughts: A V/H/S feel but make it not suck. I wish the filmmakers of that franchise had talked to these four about how anthology horror should be done. The pacing is slow for all three but it’s all part of their plan so don’t complain. All three shorts and the connecting film are superb. Hollywood, pay attention.
