Today, we have another guest review from local Pittsburgh author, Kerry E.B. Black! Check out her thoughts on her most recent read below! I just added this one to my TBR. You should too!

Curdle Creek
by Yvonne Battle-Felton
Set in an ambiguous past, the award-winning novel Curdle Creek by Yvonne Battle-Felton tells of a young widow in the Curdle Creek community. This all-black settlement has some unsettling traditions and celebrations that are meant to bring such literary greats as Shirley Jackson’s famed short story, “The Lottery.”
The matriarchal town has strict population control and loyalty in place, with penalties for those who don’t comply - and one of the town leaders is the widow’s own power-hungry mother. With its mix of folklore and sci-fi, including time travel, the tale leaves readers wrong-footed at the end, with purposeful ambiguity designed, one suspects, to stimulate thought.

More about Kerry E.B. Black
Kerry E.B. Black writes from an over-stuffed little house situated along a fog-enshrouded river in the land where Romero's Dead roamed. Her children think she's dull, and their dogs agree, but the family cats, Poe and Hemingway, feel differently. The felines find a kinship with their nocturnal buddy and encourage Kerry to write.
