Feed the Pit

reviewed by Besu Tadesse

Note: Spoilers ahead.

Released in July 2026, Feed the Pit is a first-person psychological horror game developed and published by Curious Fox Sox, the same studio that created The Deadseat. You play as the Seeker, a newly promoted member of a cult tasked with finding and killing people who believed in materialism while avoiding forest monsters.

The game succeeds in nearly every way.

The gameplay is smooth and fits well with the creepy atmosphere, alternating between quiet moments where you learn more about the lore of the cult and their existence in Carrister Valley (the same location from The Deadseat) and an enigmatic card game that you must play to find your victims on a map and culminates in an evening hunt that, when successful, ends violently for your target. You have to manage food resources for health and different items that assist in the card game.

The Valley also has different portals that can be used to traverse the landscape, a feature that becomes especially useful when dodging cryptids and hostile park rangers. The concept of the game is extremely simple: use the cards to eliminate spaces on a map, travel to places on the map to use the card most effectively and narrow it down until there is one space remaining where your target is hiding. Then, it’s time to kill and bring them back to the cult headquarters to feed them to the pit, where a creature named Elijah remains.

The story is as compelling as the gameplay. The story of the pit and the history of the cult members unfold as you move deeper into the cult leadership. The characters are compelling and often tragic in various stages of dedication to the cult. Playable cut scenes are just as mysterious, presenting in different visual styles that match the associated fear and anxiety.

You find yourself traversing the Valley in different eras, trying to find yourself in the darkness and avoiding monsters in a completely separate self. The combination of every element makes the game unsettling from the first until the final moments. The best part is that this is only part 1 of the story; the others are slated to come out over time. It brings excitement and anticipation for what’s to come.

Act 1 is available for purchase on PC via Steam, with Acts 2 and 3 rolling out for free in the coming months. As with their previous title, it’s one of the best horror games out there, so get it quickly.
