08/23/2026 Christina Critiques - ASH VS. EVIL DEAD (TV Series: 2015-2018)

“Shoot first. Think never.”

If anyone had told me two months ago that I would not only rewatch and enjoy ARMY OF DARKNESS but go on to watch the TV series in its entirety in less than ten days, I would have told you that you needed to take your meds.

But of course, I was wrong. This series was a blast and I cannot wait to rewatch it!

We find Ashley J. Williams (Ash) a little older (by 30 years), a little more of a dad bod, but just as insane and still hocking hardware. His co-worker, Pablo, looks up to him like a sycophant and the new girl, Kelly, well, she’s just both of their cups o’ tea.  Oh, but evil is back because Ash went poetic… well. Kinda.

Boy, are these characters amazing. Ash, Pablo, and Kelly are some of the most fleshed out and relatable I have watched. Ash is the exact same from EVIL DEAD 2 and ARMY OF DARKNESS. There is no changing Ashley… well, until Season 3 anyway. He’s misogynistic, racist, but endearing somehow. We root for him and see him as the hero even though this entire series and the blood soaked aftermath are his fault because he wanted a piece of ass. Classic Ash, am I right?

Pablo is this cute sidekick who packs a hell of a punch. The arc of his character is one of the best in the series. He finds that running away from his life path leads him exactly to where he is needed… which doesn’t make sense but it will.

Kelly, my sweet Italian princess. Seriously, she’s hot and I couldn’t help crush on her a bit. She’s bad ass, can take a dagger or two, have a talking leg AND look perfect doing it. She’s brilliant every second she is on screen and slowly turns into the female Ash (minus the misogyny and racism).

Lucy … I had so many feelings about her. It was a rollercoaster from her first episode to the last. I loved to hate her and hated to love her.

The cast was perfect in every way but what really sealed the series love for me was the creativity of the kills. And friends, let me tell you there are PLENTY of kills. So many that I had to pace myself with Season 2. While watching it, I realized that with a show like this, the inventiveness had to be top notch. Imagine watching thirty episodes and the kills/enemies/etc. were one note. I would have murdered my TV. But it may be one of the most over the top, splatter infested season ever. I had to make the rules to not eat while watching this show. Especially Season 2, Christ in a sidecart, it was a rough one.

I could write for hours about this series as it has redemption, loyalty, naked women, hundreds of kills, depth that I wasn’t ready for, and did I mention a ton of blood? Well, 98% of their budget had to go for that and cleanup.

If you have loved anything by Sam Raimi or Bruce Campbell, this is definitely something to start watching. It is free on PlutoTV but know there are a ton of commercials (but again, it’s free). This is definitely a top five in series watched for me.
