Welcome to Latham's Last Words, where I give you my last words on books I've enjoyed. Continuing on with my reviews of the Ludo Carstairs Series by F.R. Jameson. Supernatural thrillers with an X-Files feel.

The Undead Ravens Book 5

Once again Jameson has delighted and entertained me with the fifth book in this series. Ludo Carstairs and Michael Garris are people I would love to have a conversation with, they are just so real, so human, that I feel like they live next door. Their different personalities are so complimentary to each other and it's amazing how that can be conveyed on writing.

The only thing I was a little bummed about was I wish the Chimera/Manticore creatures had a bigger part. I don't recall ever reading a book with that type of creature. But it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story.

The Wraith Assassin Book 6

My two favorite supernatural investigators return and take you on a world wide adventure from the Welsh coast to London to Venice and finally the Canary Islands. I can't express how much I adore Ludo and Michael they are such fantastic characters that make you want to sit down and have a cup of tea with them. The author has done a wonderful job of creating two characters who are very different but who compliment each other.

I'll never tire of reading these adventures that are dark but have a certain lightness to them.

The Gothic Cocoon Book 7

Another supernatural good time!

Book 7 is just as good as Book 1 was.

This one is more of a slow burn in my opinion, but no less engrossing. The atmosphere of the story engulfs you as you read. The dread and darkness are so palpable I felt like I was in the book myself.

Ludo and Michael are two of my favorite characters ever and I could see these books becoming a movie or a series.

The Born Vampires Book 8

Another amazing adventure!

I've loved every single book in this series but this one is hands down my favorite. I loved it because Minako Cohen was back and we got to learn more about her. I loved it because it was darker. I loved it because it had a kind of happy ending.

Since I know the end of the series is coming I was a little leary because I thought maybe Ludo or Michael wouldn't survive this book, especially when this one scene came up, but I was quite relieved that all of the main characters survived. I honestly don't think my heart could take the loss of Ludo, Michael or Minako. That's how invested I am in this series and it's characters. I even have a soft spot for Dexter.

Do yourself a favor and read this book. It's part of a series, but each book can be read as a standalone. I recommend the whole series actually.

The Demonic Detective Book 9

It was bittersweet reading this book. I'm head over heels for Ludo and Michael, and I'm sad this is almost the end. But, that is the mark of a good series.

Another dark and thrilling adventure with these two amazing characters. Jameson sure knows how to create stories and characters that are all encompassing.

One of the most horrifying things about this was the balloons that screamed when you popped them. I felt like the characters, that whole scene sent chills down my spine.

There's so much to this book, murder, magic, resurrection, travelling by moonlight and a werewolf. You won't be able to stop turning the pages.

Books 1-8 in my opinion, can be read in any order, but you definitely want to read them before starting book 9.

I'll be so very sad when the final book is released. I've enjoyed these characters and the world they live in immensely. I am very attached to them. But I wait with baited breath to see how the ending unfolds.
