Besu Tadesse is back with another horror game review! This week, he brings us his thoughts on Eyes: The Horror Game.

EYES: THE HORROR GAME

reviewed by Besu Tadesse

Released in February 2013 and ported to various gaming platforms since, Eyes: The Horror Game is a first-person survival horror game developed by Fearless Games. You play as a thief that breaks into a mansion, only to be forced to search for riches while trying to survive a weaving tale of monsters and other supernatural entities.

Graphics and gameplay are pretty good, especially for a mobile game. In each level, you are dropped into a dark and dank area where you need to collect money bags and escape. Each level has a specific entity that roams the halls (only the halls, rooms are safe), and your job is to avoid them. Each map is comprehensive – mansion, hospital, school. They all feel relatively similar, as they are generally decrepit and without much color. As you progress, you unveil a map that remains accessible as you continue further. Monster design is fluid and somewhat terrifying, considering the graphical limits. Controls are a bit too loose, even for a mobile title, so players should be cautious when they are prompted to run for cover. There are also items to collect that assist you in evasion or distraction. The game only has a few levels with some bonus content to keep it going; however, this isn’t such a complicated game. Get the money bags, avoid the monster.

The real hook is in the “eyes” mechanic. Throughout the level, there are red graffiti eyes that appear on the walls, and you are able to collect them. While going through your search, you can trigger one of the eyes and it will transport you directly into the viewpoint of the monster, giving you a chance to see where in the space they are stalking. Not only do the “eyes” provide information on the monster’s location, but you are sometimes greeted with a dark phrase or statement (presumably from the monster), meaning that using the “eyes” is as critical part of digging into the game lore. Managing your balance of “eyes” is a great way to keep the player on their toes.

Eyes: The Horror Game is available on Android devices, as well as other platforms like PC/Steam and consoles. This isn’t the most involved game, but if you’re looking for a quick survival scare for a nominal fee to remove ads, give it a try. Enjoy!
