Welcome to Latham's Last Words, where I give you my last words on books I've enjoyed. Today I'm featuring Runner: Diary of a Parallel Killer by An Wo Long. Part of the Neo-Noir Diaries Omnibus, this novella is quite intense!

My attention was grabbed from page one, and I didn't put the book down until it was finished.

Written as diary entries, you're taken through a serial killer's life. I was astonished at how quickly I became attached to the narrator, a narrator who was pretty much emotionless. But you know what, he was a more genuine person than real people I know.

I loved this no holds barred look at the life of a killer.

His hunting grounds are the city.

"It is so easy to blend in. No one stops to really take you in. They see you, but they almost don't want to."

His process is simple, but effective.

"Isolate. Incapacitate. Emulate."

His thoughts on love.

"I really did like her. And I think we would have been happy, but how could I love someone who could love what I am?"

Wonderfully written book that I can highly recommend. Full of intense situations, without being overly graphic. This is a book that crosses genres from thriller to horror.
