Happy Saturday! This one is on the longer side and, definitely one of the spookier locations that I have researched. So, let's just jump right into it and see what's happening at The Sallie House located in Atchison, Kansas.

Okay, so this is actually a pretty wild story. The house was built in the mid-late 1800s by a man named Michael Finney. Unfortunately, soon after being built in 1872, Michael died in the home. When Michael died, his son, Charles Finney, who was a doctor, moved into the house.

Charles was one of the very few doctors in the area. He and his family lived upstairs, and the front room of the house was his office, where he practiced medicine.

The first hospital wasn’t built in the area until 1915. So, around 1910, a distraught woman began banging on the door of Dr. Charles Finney while holding her extremely sick child. The child was her six-year-old daughter, and her name was Sallie.

Dr. Finney diagnoses Sallie with appendicitis, and surgery could not be delayed. In fact, it was so urgent that they didn’t even wait for anesthesia to kick in before beginning the surgery. Her screams filled the room and then suddenly stopped. Sallie died on the operating table.

Fast forward to 1992. Debra and Tony Pickman, a husband and wife were expecting their first child. They found what they believed to be the perfect home for their growing family. Nothing happened for quite a few months. Then a couple of things would happen here and there, but it was easy enough to explain away since the house was old. (Flickering lights, timer on the oven turning on, the phone going dead, etc.) The only thing they couldn’t explain was that their dog would act very defensive towards the nursery and growl/bark at it.

Then their son was born. Once Taylor was born, things started to go a bit rogue. One day when they came home, they walked into the nursery and noticed that all of the stuffed animals had been placed on the floor, and they were usually on a chair. This made Tony and Debra nervous as they thought someone could have broken into their home. Despite feeling uneasy, they put all the stuffed animals away and laid their son down in his crib for bed. When they walked back downstairs, they noticed the light in their son’s nursery had turned on. When they ran upstairs and walked in… one of the stuffed animals was on the floor again. They wanted to convince themselves that perhaps they were just imagining things, so they put the stuffed animal back and turned the lights back off.

Debra decided to check the nursery a few minutes later… and lo and behold, the stuffed animal was back on the floor! So now they’re really freaking out. Tony decided to call his brother Larry. Larry comes over and checks things out. Nothing happens. Nothing happens UNTIL they check the nursery again and go back downstairs. When they got downstairs, they discovered that one of the stuffed animals was DOWNSTAIRS and FACING A DIFFERENT WAY! This is when they decided to make the decision to leave for the night and go stay with this Larry. This was also when the family decided to bring in reinforcements.

Larry calls an out-of-state psychic that he knows. The psychic told him that there was a young ghost girl in the house and that her name was Sallie. Tony’s mom reached out to the past owners of the home, who stated they never really experienced anything other than an unexplainable smell at times. And the mother would always complain about toys being everywhere, and her children would always tell her that it wasn’t them making the mess, that it was Sallie.

The psychic told them that Sallie was just a sweet little girl and wanted to feel like part of their family. This actually calmed their nerves.

According to US Ghost Adventures, the next day, a different brother of Tony, George, came over to see what all the commotion was about. George didn’t really believe in ghosts, so when Tony showed him the bear that had turned on its own downstairs, George suggested taking a photo with it. Tony said, “Sallie, if you’re here, say cheese!” As Tony pressed the shutter button, George saw the bear turn around with his own eyes. George screamed about what happened, and Tony ran upstairs to tell Debra.

George went to follow, but suddenly, he felt like he couldn’t move any of his muscles. He was frozen in place, attempting with all his will to move. Finally, he regained control and ran upstairs after his brother.

After hearing what happened, the couple decided to grab the baby and get out of there. As Tony desperately tried to get the baby buckled into the car seat, he felt a sudden pain on his back.

When they were safely at the family’s house, Tony went to inspect the source of the pain and was horrified by what he saw: three deep scratches that had drawn blood.

Despite this, they decided to stay in the home. Unfortunately, it became hell for Tony. Tony began experiencing things that Debra didn’t. That being said, Debra agreed to allow camera crews/paranormal investigators into their home. There was quite a bit of activity recorded.

Per US Ghost Adventures, the final straw for the family was: After the Sightings television crew left, Tony finally got a little momentum with Debra that something was really wrong in this home. So, when a medium offered to cleanse the home of the spirits, the Pickman's agreed. However, when push came to shove, Debra requested that the medium allow Sallie’s spirit to stay.

The cleanse didn’t go according to plan. Tony was attacked during the cleanse, with eight of the deepest scratches he had received thus far. The spirits seemed upset at the cleansing attempt, and they increased the incessant voices that Tony was hearing.

Sleep-deprived and truly feeling crazy at this point, Tony would experience extreme emotions of anger or paranoia, and then black out completely. After one of these black out sessions, he discovered, to his horror, that he had killed a stray cat that had wandered into their home — with a butcher knife. Tony cleaned up the cat’s body, he could hear the voices telling him to stab his wife next. He resisted the urge with all his might, trying to keep the toxic thoughts at bay.

Shortly after, when Tony was at the top of the stairs, one of the entities pushed him. They shoved him so hard that he broke the railing but didn’t fall all the way down. This, finally, was enough to pull Debra from the denial she’d be swimming in. The pair agreed that they could no longer safely live in this home, and within two weeks, they were packed and moved out.
