Welcome to Latham's Last Words, where I give you my last words on books I've enjoyed. My last post for Women In Horror Month includes three amazing authors, Tanisha Stewart, L. Marie Wood and Izzy Von.
The Deadbeat by Tanisha Stewart
What a wild ride! Very enjoyable read with great characters and a fast paced plot. Emotionally charged, you can feel Belle and Jessie's grief over the loss of their mother and their anger at their father. A case of revenge gone wrong, toxic family members, secrets and family loyalty. While this isn't the darkest thriller I have ever read, it certainly made me think about what I would do in Jessie and Belle's situation.
A twist ending that you won't see coming made this story that much more enjoyable.
Can't wait to read the rest of the Red series!

You can find The Deadbeat and the rest of the Red series here:
Died by Izzy Von (Releases April 26th!)
I have NEVER in my life been so emotionally invested by a zombie. I'm not sure if I should be mad at the author for the way I've been wrecked by this book. Or impressed that this is a zombie story that can take my emotions twist them all up then stomp the heck out of them. Lottie is going to stick with me for a very long time.
This post apocalyptic story is a world full of zombies, mutants and giants. A sort of cosmic horror flavored zombie story, seasoned with heavy themes of self harm, past trauma and substance abuse.
No "me zombie eat brains" here. No fast flowing action. It's a slow burn you'll want to savor.
I was delighted when I realized this book ties in to the author's Dandy Among The Dead series. (this is a complete standalone)
If you're looking for a unique zombie story, look no further. Von has you covered.

12 Hours by L. Marie Wood
I was fortunate to meet L Marie Wood at AuthorCon this year and get a signed copy of this book from her. The inscription she wrote was "This is a wild ride!". And that was 100% accurate.
Is it full of blood and guts, jump scares and monsters? No. Does that make this book less terrifying? Heck no. New fear unlocked.
A slow burn that I couldn't put down. A main character that wormed his way into my heart. I really enjoyed this book.
