CONAN BOOK 1
By: Robert E Howard, L. Sprague De Champ and Lin Carter
Everything I know about Conan, I learned from Arnold Schwarzenegger. Until I read this. What a complex, charismatic, brutal, superstitious and honorable thief. Yeah that last part doesn't make sense, unless you've read Conan. I'm Rogues In The House, even though he got free from the prison as promised, instead of just going on his way he still went to the house of the Red Priest to fulfill the bargain he made.
I loved The Hyborian Age, I think it was really beneficial to understand this world that Howard created. From the beginning through two cataclysmic events that changed the landscape and the people.
When people think about Conan, they think fantasy, but I would say these tales most certainly have a home in the horror genre. Monsters, ghosts, aliens, ape men and zombies are just a few of the terrors Conan faces.
There are only two things that sort of annoyed me. The first is Conan was knocked unconscious quite a few times. The second, and maybe it's more I felt bad for him, is that even though he's a prolific thief, he never gets the treasure.
I enjoyed following young Conan on these adventures and look forward to more!
