We're coming to you all live from Williamsburg, Virginia, where Scares That Cares is happening this weekend! I have a full day of convention stuff to attend, so we’ll keep the intro short. Today, I brought you three super depraved books. Got a trigger warning? I can guarantee one of these books touches upon it, but they’re all easy five-star reads for Splatterpunk and Extreme Horror lovers! ENJOY!!!

MADE A MONSTER

By Rob Nelson

I was made a monster, and now I intend to act as one. Life's short, seek revenge.

MADE A MONSTER is probably one of the most diabolical books I have read in a long time. I was prepared for the unhinged depravity, but damn, this book goes hard! And it goes hard from start to finish with no let-ups! I loved it!

I had this book on my TBR for quite some time, but between arcs and life, it kind of just sat on my Kindle for way longer than I intended. When I finally started reading, I realized that the only mistake I had made was not reading this the second it was released last year. Nelson is a new author to me and I must say, I was beyond impressed with his writing. The characters and their development were 10/10. The overall tone and vibe is 10/10. Everything about this book, including the cover, is 10/10.

The fact that there aren’t many newer authors who are writing full-length splatterpunk novels makes this one stand out even more. I won't lie; this is a tough read. It’s brutal. It hits upon basically every trigger you can think of. It absolutely almost had me a few times and I have never DNF a book for subject matter, nor do I personally have any triggers. But if you do. I am going to throw caution to the wind and advise that you double check before picking this bad boy up.

That being said. I highly recommend the hell out of this one. I think we are going to see Nelson do quite big things around here, and I look forward to reading his other work.

SYNOPSIS:

Adrian and Kendra are a match made in Hell.

Adrian's dark past left him with a twisted imagination that takes him deep into the forest where he does unspeakable things.

Kendra is new to town. She has a dark secret of her own and an unhealthy obsession with a boy she hasn't even met yet.

Until Adrian met Kendra, he had his deviant urges under control. When she comes to him for help, his capacity for violence goes beyond anything either of them could have imagined.

FISSURE FACE

By Patrick C. Harrison III

There, staring back at him from the center of his forehead, like the eye of a cyclops, was a perfectly proportioned vagina. It was upside down, Toby deduced, with the clit situated directly between his eyes. But aside from that minor error, it was flawless.

Whenever PC3 releases a new book, you can guarantee that I make sure to set things aside and binge-read it the same day it comes out. Yeah, it’s like that. So, when FISSURE FACE was released, you can bet your bottom dollar that I did nothing in life until I started and finished it. And oh my goodness, it was so worth it.

That being said, this book is foul, HA. Like… so foul, lol. If you’ve read anything by PC3 before, you know that the man can tell a hell of a story, no matter how depraved and weird it can get at times. Like some of his others, this one gives that fever dream vibe that I love so much. My only grievance with this book is there’s another damn can of tuna, lol. (IYKYK)

As with all his books, I highly recommend this one. I am keeping my review short on purpose because I really encourage people to go into this one blind. I was REALLY caught off guard once I realized what was happening and I want other readers to experience that feeling too! So yeah, just click the link below, don’t read too much about it, and go in blind. It’s so good. And gross. And depraved. And I need more. Now.

SYNOPSIS:

There are no good guys in this one.

No happy ending either.

Toby receives a parcel in the mail,

containing an item of lust,

cursed with transformative consequences.

It should have stayed a secret,

but the boys find out,

and they have yearnings too.

One thing, as they say, leads to another.

A brutal blend of body horror and splatterpunk, Fissure Face explores obsession, exploitation, and the monstrous consequences of desire.

BARCODE

By Emery LeeAnn

People who believed in fairytales were the assholes who need a reality check. There was no such thing as happily ever after. It just didn't happen.

Emery LeAnn quickly came on my radar last year after reading one of her short stories on Godless. Since then, I have read quite a few of her books, and she’s probably one of the most underrated authors in the genre, in my opinion. I absolutely love her writing. There hasn’t been a book yet that didn’t have me in an absolute chokehold by the second page.

BARCODE is a tough read. The content is tough. But I always find that Emery LeAnn can take on these hard themes and articulate them in a way that works flawlessly. Flawlessly in the sense that even if you possess a certain trigger warning, I will still encourage you to read her book if you are comfortable enough to push your limits, because I really think she can execute the points of her story without it being too much. I have no idea if that is going to make sense to anyone who reads this review, but it does in my head, so I’m rolling with it!

This story sits at around 45 pages, which makes it perfect for a quick binge read that still gut punches. Again, the trigger warnings are strong with this one, so if it doesn't seem like your cup of tea, that’s fine, but don’t write this author off. I really would love to see her talked more about in the community and I really think everyone should take a chance on her writing!

SYNOPSIS:

My family's past was dark and the secrets ran deep, I just didn't realize how deep until I became the bargaining chip for one of my father's deals. The depravity of the place I'm sent to reduces me to nothing more than the barcode that is now tattooed on my neck. They try to break me daily. What they don't understand- you can't break what's already been broken. The more they push, the more my fractured mind becomes deranged. Who wins in this game of cat and mouse?

This is my blanket warning for all of my books. Some are more triggery than others. I will not list individual triggers on my books. What I will say is,if you have triggers of any kind, do not read my sh*t. Now, if you like dark, graphic, mind bendy, tickle your trigger loving mind, and snuggle with your demons kind of books, then please, move forward with your purchase.
