HOUSE OF DEAD CHILDREN
by Alex Hartwell
Ah, the American dream! The lead character in Alex Hartwell’s novel, The House of Dead Children, is living his. After the unfortunate death of his mother, he, as Power of Attorney, is given her worldly goods, which he uses as a down payment on a house for himself, his beautiful wife, and their two, adorable children. And not just any house - they’re moving into a mansion, complete with a spire!
On move-in day, though, joined by our lead’s brother, they find the previous owner hung in that tower. From there, the children hear a mysterious voice imitating their mother and they discover some of the place’s history. Children go missing in the manor.
Told with a deft hand, good pacing, believable characters, and a creepy antagonist, this saves the gore for the exciting conclusion. For fans of haunted houses, possession, and vengeance from beyond the grave.

More about Kerry E.B. Black
Kerry E.B. Black writes from an over-stuffed little house situated along a fog-enshrouded river in the land where Romero's Dead roamed. Her children think she's dull, and their dogs agree, but the family cats, Poe and Hemingway, feel differently. The felines find a kinship with their nocturnal buddy and encourage Kerry to write.
