On Sundays She Picked Flowers
by Yah Yah Scholfield
Yah Yah Scholfield’s novel, On Sundays She Picked Flowers, grabbed me by my throat from word one and didn’t release its grip until its conclusion. Our lead is an abused woman who’s reached the end of her patience. When her complicated Mama pushes, she pushes back with years of pent up pain. She leaves her southern home and starts up a life in the woods in a haunted house. Yep, dealing with the shenanigans of haints was preferable to her previous life! Thus begins a journey of self-discovery. One bright day, she befriends a woman with an interesting story of her own.
This multiple POV book handles generational trauma and grief, SA, racism, the patriarchy, and more with compassion, grace, and a healthy helping of gore. Yah Yah Scholfield blends genres, stirring aspects of Southern Gothic, grief horror, and fairy tale into her literary cauldron to create true magic.

More about Kerry E.B. Black
Kerry E.B. Black writes from an over-stuffed little house situated along a fog-enshrouded river in the land where Romero's Dead roamed. Her children think she's dull, and their dogs agree, but the family cats, Poe and Hemingway, feel differently. The felines find a kinship with their nocturnal buddy and encourage Kerry to write.
