AT MIDNIGHT, THEY FEAST

By Cassandra Celia, Candace Nola, and Cat Delani

Folklore and fairy tales claim that the veil between worlds is thinnest on that darkest night of autumn known as All Hallows Eve. It is said that those that lurk between the realms can come forth into ours, looking for a tasty treat.

What do you do when Fate does not play fair, when you can no longer tell who is pulling the strings, when family ties linger long after they should, and time is running out, because AT MIDNIGHT, THEY FEAST.

A triple tome of terror brought to you by Cassandra Celia, Candace Nola, and Cat Delani

WHITE FLIGHT BY PETER O'KEEFE

FOR THE GAMERS

THE BABY IN YELLOW

Reviewed by Besu Tadesse

The Baby in Yellow is a first-person Lovecraftian survival comedy horror game

developed and published by Team Terrible and first released in May 2023 with

subsequent releases since. In the game, you play as three separate babysitters tasked

with coming to the mysterious Apartment 10 to watch over the aforementioned baby

dressed in yellow. The game is divided into three separate acts (one for each of the

nannies), with tasks escalating from simple caregiving to surviving the results of terrible

scientific experiments, a labyrinth of dangers, and cult-like phenomenon.

This is one of the best endeavors of horror that I have seen on mobile devices.

The game begins in almost comical fashion, openly admitting that the baby is evil and

that it has trapped souls in small cat statues around the living room. You can do all sorts

of things to the baby like place it in the oven or dryer to be hilariously blasted out. But

very quickly, you are brought into a world with ancient lore and literal storybooks that

carry you on an almost Alice-in-Wonderland-esque fever dream where peril is

everywhere. You eventually find a companion that guides you in the quest to uncover

the mysteries.

The atmosphere bounces between light, goofy playfulness to wretched,

terrifying sequences, making sure to fit plenty of levity in between the jump scares and

chases. There are times in which the control scheme and layout make it difficult to

operate, especially in chase sequences where precious is key, but that calls on the

player to really focus on what is happening. In a world of otherwise slow-paced

psychological horror and mediocre fluff, this feels like such a unique breath of sunny,

horrifying fresh air. The developers have also promised that there will be more story

after the end, so we have much to look forward to.

The Baby in Yellow is available on mobile and PC. It’s such a surprisingly good

horror game for mobile, so get it ASAP.

BIO FOR KIT POWER:

Kit Power is an author of horror and dark crime fiction novels, novellas, and short stories, also a reviewer, essayist, and podcaster. The Finite, A Song For The End (BFA finalist, 2021), and Millionaire’s Day (BFA finalist, 2025) are his most recent fiction works; three novellas with interconnected elements that bring the apocalypse to his hometown of Milton Keynes in three very different ways. He encourages you not to read too much into that.

When he’s not gleefully visiting destruction on his hometown (fictionally), Kit writes non-fiction (much of which is collected in the two-volume My Life In Horror tomes, available wherever books are sold), reviews, blogs, and podcasts on subjects as diverse as Sherlock Holmes, Bruce Springsteen, and short horror fiction.

And if you enjoyed what you just read, please back his Patreon and buy his damn books, because the man needs to eat. Thanks.
