Today's breakdown is for "The Ninth Configuration" by William Peter Blatty:

This was not a revisit. I only learned of this book's existence after I had decided to re-read the other two books in this series for review. Zany but smart, this book furthers the arguments made in the others in regard to faith, and belief versus unbelief. Like with Kinderman, this one has a strong comic relief character in Cutshaw the Astronaut that Regan spooks during her mom's party in The Exorcist. While this one made statements that felt like they had validity, there were points in it that I felt a little confused about what was going on and I'm unsure if it was lack of comprehension on my part or deliberation by the author given the loony cast. I definitely think that this is the black sheep in the trilogy, and you can kind of tell it was previously an unrelated tale, but it was a pretty decent read at the very least. I enjoyed it to a fair degree, but I doubt I'd be eager for a revisiting in the future.

3/5 stars.
