Today's breakdown is for "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream" by Harlan Ellison:

This one was mentioned to me several years ago as a must-read Horror tale and I finally got around to giving it a try. I often feel like stories that I put off are visited at a time when they hit a little harder than they would have when I initially learned of them. This one definitely falls in the "right time" category as I see the parallels between what it presents and what the future seems to hold for mankind. A terrifyingly foreshadow of what can happen when the machine dominates its creators, this isn't one I'll ever forget. As we progress towards an all tech-driven society, I really hope this story - and ones like it, will wake some people up to the dangerous future that is being laid out even as I type up this review. I really dig it when something written almost hypothetically for its time foresees the complications of a concerning progression and how it can (and likely will) play out to eliminate the existence of humans. Don't be like me and sleep on reading this short, read this one NOW!

5/5 stars.
