Welcome to Latham's Last Words, where I give you my last words on books I've enjoyed. This month is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Here are my thoughts on Vampire Weekend.

Purchased based on the cover alone, this book turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The different view of what it means to be a vampire, the myriad of musical references, the complicated relationships between Louise her family and other vampires made for a fun read. The way Louise is blunt about the inconveniences of being a vampire is a refreshing change from other vampire books.

One of the things I liked most about the book is when there's scenes that Louise is thinking about the past, it's always during something happening in the present. Most authors will just make separate chapters for the past reflections, but Chen found a way to blend the past into the present.

Punk rock, vampire technology and strained family relationships make this a must read for vampire fans.
