Today's breakdown is for "Red Dragon" by Thomas Harris:

One of my absolute favorite books of all time, it was a real pleasure to dive back into this one. A terrifying and sad story about a disfigured boy who becomes a beast by means of transforming happy families into snuff caricatures, this is not one to be missed. I do find the ending pretty intentionally bleak and love the Bible verse used at the end to make it hit home. I feel a lot of empathy for Francis Dolarhyde and he remains one of my top villains ever crafted, alongside Hannibal of course. I also have a pretty good understanding of how the character of Will Graham is portrayed as I have always thought I'd be a decent Homicide Detective myself. I find this book relatable on many levels and won't be surprised to revisit it once again in the future. This particular reading completed its cycle during a full moon, fitting.

5/5 stars.
