Today's breakdown is for "Hannibal" by Thomas Harris:

Taking place 7 years after the lambs were silenced, Hannibal follows the hunt for the infamous cannibal. This one also explores one of Lecter's surviving victims, Mason Verger, whom I've always detested and I feel like he is the most despicable character from any of the four books. Really, the Vergers in general just give me the creeps, they are well presented characters that you love to hate. If you have read the other books then you can expect some familiar faces and callback memories throughout this one which gives it a nice, full circle touch. As a fan of Hannibal Rising, I like how this one relates to how the trauma from his childhood and correlates it to his fondness and obsession with Clarice and her past, it shows how it serves as his drive to do what he does. I love, love, love the psychological profiles this series sets up and this one does a wonderful job of keeping up with that aspect. I do find the ending of this book pretty bizarre, but I am always pleased to see that distasteful prick Krendler get his due. But yeah, this tetralogy wraps up with quite an unexpected twist...

4/5 stars.

No studio execs have had the guts to adapt this book with lore-accurate, ripped out of her mind, Red Hulk physique Margot Verger. Because they're all spineless cowards.

I was loving this book as much as the other Lecter books.... Until the twist with Clarice at the end. For me that jumped the shark. Keep up with the great reviews!
