It's Pride Month and I've gathered some interviews with some amazing LGBTQIA+ authors which I will be posting throughout the month.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hi! I’m Taylor Z. Adams (she/they) and I’m a horror author. I’m a proud transgender woman and lesbian, living with two of my partners and a small army of cats in Toledo, OH. Besides being crazy about horror and all things spooky, I’m also deeply passionate about hardcore punk music and old PS1/N64 video games.

How important do you think queer representation in horror is?

We’re living in some very scary times right now in regards to people attempting to silence queer voices, so I think it’s more important than ever for us to hear stories from LGBTQ+ artists as well as having more media focused on queer characters.

I’m very loud and proud about who I am and what my stories are. In my own work, I try to present queerness in a way that “normalizes” it. Sometimes I’ll have characters where their trans identity is presented like it’s something as simple as if they have brown hair or green eyes.

It wasn’t ever anything I consciously did at first, but I’ve had people reach out to me and thank me not just for having trans representation in my work but for how I’ve represented it. Despite not intentionally trying to make it a “story about being trans”, I’m absolutely honored that someone once told me that my book Something’s Wrong With Maddie was the last push they needed to accept themselves and come out as trans, and personally, that’s more of a marker of success than any award or sales ranking.

Tell us about your most recent release, or an upcoming release.

My most recent book is a novel called Safe Food that came out in May! It’s about a coven of queer vampires that make adult films together. Classic Taylor Z. Adams style writing that blends sapphic romance and comedy with horror, and it ended up simultaneously being the goriest and spiciest thing I’ve ever written!

Which character you've created is your favorite and why?

That’s a really tough one! If I had to pick, I’d say Steph from Something’s Wrong With Maddie. When I originally started writing that book, it was unbelievably bleak, to the point where I almost couldn’t handle writing it. I added her intending to only give her one scene at first to give the book a little more levity, but I had so much fun writing her that I had to not only make her a recurring character but also make her a side character in Safe Food.

Where can readers find your books?

I try to be available on as many platforms as possible! But you can find all my work in one place on Amazon or most of my books in digital form on Godless!

Where can readers follow you on Social Media?

You can find me most places @tayloradamsbooks, and I’m most active on FaceBook and Instagram 🙂
