Today's breakdown is for the audiobook of "Sin" by Matthew A. Clarke:
Knew nothing of the plot going, I just hit play and sat back and listened. The core of the transmission was a story about saving someone you love at any cost. I liked that element and thought that the storyline of Allistair's profession and how it tied to the ending was very interesting and well done. I also liked the amount of imagination found in the otherworldly building. Everything else felt a bit random and muddy for me. I didn't feel like The Gaunt Man aspect served much of a point and I could have done without it honestly because to me it felt like it was simply put in to provide shock value. That stated, I'm a little torn about my opinion of this tale. I think it's possible this book just wasn't suited for my specific taste because the likes and dislikes varied throughout. I did think it was well written, and judging from the skill on these pages I would be keen to trying out another story from Clarke.
The audio portion was performed by who according to the afterword isn't typically a narrator for audiobook, but I thought he did exceptionally well given that fact. I think if he sticks with it, he might just found himself a full-time hobby and/or career.
3/5 stars.
