It's Pride Month and I've gathered some interviews with some amazing LGBTQIA+ authors which I will be posting throughout the month.

Matt is not only a fabulous author, he is also one of the kindest, most genuine people I have ever met. I've always said the he writes "wholesome horror".

Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Matt Forgit. I’m an indie horror novelist based in Boston, MA. I am a lifelong horror fan and reader. Among the many things I love are my better half, friends and family, nieces and nephews, movies, books, music, TV, final girls, food, spooky folktales, and anything 70s, 80s, and 90s. I have a fondness for underdogs and people who are “good weird,” and not “cool kids.” You can see a lot of that reflected in my writing.

How important do you think queer representation in horror is?

It’s always important. Horror can be very political, subversive, trailblazing, and trendsetting. Horror usually embraces “the other,” and people who don’t always see themselves represented in other genres or the media. Queer representation in horror helps us to show the world that being part of the LGBT+ community isn’t something abnormal or “weird,” for lack of a better word. We’re all out there—your neighbors, friends, family, coworkers, and the person you sit next to on the subway. Having this representation in horror, like anywhere, is always positive and can help change minds, create empathy and understanding, and even bring comfort to people.

Tell us about your most recent release, or an upcoming release.

My last book, It’s Always Halloween Here, came out last year. It’s what I call my “Fear Street for adults,” and was inspired by the 90-minute B-movies I used to watch on USA’s Up All Night and Saturday Nightmares; movies like Spookies, Night of the Demons, and all the other fun, fast-paced, good-time flicks you’d find on the shelves of the local Mom-and-Pop video store.

I have two projects I’m working on. One is my new fiction novel, and the other is a non-fiction project that will hopefully be out later this year.

Which character you've created is your favorite and why?

Maybe Sam from How To Be a Professional Mourner, but I have a lot of affection for many of the characters I create. Many of them are homages to friends, family, people I care for, and horror characters I love.
