Welcome to Latham's Last Words, where I give you my last words on books I've enjoyed. It's Pride Month so let's talk about The Bad Things We Did by Chris Archeske

For a debut collection, the stories were out of this world good! There wasn't a bad story in the bunch, and they were all different.

The Bad Things We Did was haunting and sad. I wasn't sure where it was going at first, but then the story returned to the past and a tragic accident. Part body horror, part supernatural and a bit coming of age, this first story hooked me for sure.

Mind The Gap was a delightful tale of revenge and everlasting love. I am said that Alvaro got caught up in the situation.

The Parachute I'm going to have to say is one of my favorites of the collection. It's nostalgic, and gross. And very creepy. I read this story and then the next day I drove past a school where kids were playing with a parachute and I wanted to yell at them to get away from it. This story made that much of an impression on me!

The Candy Can Man I had read last year when it was released around Christmas. A toxic relationship mixed with some folk horror and you get a jolly bloody good time! This is also a favorite for me.

Monstrous made me hate a character more than I thought was possible. Delving into the world of influencers and how far they will go for followers and likes. Reed definitely gets what he deserves!

The Knocker-Up was super creepy! It kinda gave me Babdook vibes in a way. Not sure I can explain why, you'll have to read it.

Mercy At The End of Her Life just cemented my dislike of HOAs. The ending actually made me smile. Good for you Mercy!

The Thing That Wasn't now when there's a babysitter and a mention of a scary movie you know things are going to go bad! The things that go bump in the night are here to make themselves known. Just remember kids, stay out of the closet!

Archeske is most certainly an author to watch. I'll be anxiously awaiting his next book!
