It's Pride Month and I've gathered some interviews with some amazing LGBTQIA+ authors which I will be posting throughout the month.

I don't know Dorian well, but we do have nice chats when we run into each other at events and he's always got a smile on his face.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hello! I'm Dorian J. Sinnott, an author of dark fiction. My works have appeared in many literary magazines and journals around the world and have been nominated for numerous awards, including Best of the Net and the Eric Hoffer Book Award. A few of my stories have also been adapted into comics and audio dramas, as heard on Chilling Tales for Dark Nights and Nightshift Radio. When I'm not writing, I love traveling around the country, watching horror films, and going to metal concerts. I currently live in New York with my finacee and our two cats.

How important do you think queer representation in horror is?

Queer rep is so important in all genres! For horror in particular, however, I think especially so. Much of horror has an emphasis on the "unknown" or the "different" and it's resonated very heavily with queer themes since early on. Horror, I truly believe, was built on the backbones of marginalized communities (queer folks, people of color, and women especially). For many of us, we have been able to sympathize with the "other" or the monster, as society has seen us and has painted us for so long. Thus, having representation on the page that is openly queer--especially when it comes to protagonists vs. antagonists--is vital. We live in a world filled with horrors for our community, and seeing characters overcome their own horrors is vital. 

Tell us about your most recent release, or an upcoming release.

My most recent release is White Tranquility, a novelette surrounding two siblings during a trip to a cabin during the winter months. Only one returns from the trip, and they make the trek back up the mountain in the spring to try and find their lost sibling. It's heavy in folklore and guilt and was inspiration for my current WIP (The Things We Leave Behind) that delves deeper into themes of grief and guilt.

Which character you've created is your favorite and why?

It's definitely a toss up between my characters Peter Harlow and Sam Vanderpool from my older teen Halloween novel, Along About Midnight. I'd have to say Peter because I put a lot of personal experience and emotion into him, and I really felt a lot of what he was feeling on the page when I was writing him. Sam, however, I absolutely adore as a strong female character who doesn't take any crap and is extremely supportive of her friends. She's someone that I wish I had as a friend growing up.
