Today's breakdown is for the audiobook of "Voices" by Kayla Fredrick:

Came across this one and gave it a shot. It was a supernatural slow-burn about a mysterious asylum that beckons two strangers to unravel varying bits of grim history involving a series of deaths. The two main characters are forced to relive the events as they attempt to escape after being trapped inside. Wrapped up in the historical accounts of the asylum's dark past are echoes of real life horrific things that women used to face at the hands of such institutions and I liked that angle a lot. I think this story could benefit from an expanded version, and it felt to me that it hinted that the story isn't over yet. I'd be quick to read anything else that was related to this story to see what else it could offer.

The audio portion was performed by Monica Cannon who I thought gave a good performance and her efforts shone through for this tale.

3/5 stars.
