Today's breakdown is for the audiobook of "The Pope Lick Massacre" by Eric Butler:

When I was asked what audiobooks I'd want for reviews, this title immediately popped into my mind because I've heard excellent things and I've had an Ebook version for a few years. I'm typically torn on how I feel about Butler's stories, but I did like this one, mostly. Full of intensity from the prologue, it was an exciting and violent tale about a Goatman and those unfortunate enough to cross him. Full of descriptive gore as always, the main plot was done well, but I pretty much loathed the pervy preacher character and anything to do with him or his sickening deeds felt a little off with the rest of it. I loved that the character Lizzy got her proper revenge after her assault, however there was zero retribution for the other assaulted character and that's one thing I find disappointing with some of Eric's writing is the lack thereof. Had that entire preacher segment been taken out, I think it would have been a much stronger book as it seemed like it was just there to serve as a reminder that creeps twist faith for their own perversions and sometimes there's injustice in the world. Reminders that we don't need from fiction when reality is already so horrible. To sum up my thoughts, it was a great creature feature but the human side was a little messy. Despite there being some strong dislikes, they will not keep me from excitedly giving the sequel a listen. I hope that there's some good news regarding Maddie...

The audio portion was narrated by Micah Cottingham and there's nothing but good things to say about it.

4/5 stars.
