Today's breakdown is for "The Exorcist" by William Peter Blatty:
One of the greatest battles of good versus evil that exists lie within the pages of this book. A truly terrifying journey of a young girl under a relentless demonic possession, the book blows the filmed version away for me every time I open it. The movie did what it could, but I find the "spider walk" scene in the print version to be one of the scariest scenes I've ever read. It sticks with me every time I read it. With several years between my initial read and the revisit for this review, I found the story more frightening this time around. Another thing that had more affect for me during the second reading was the contrasting and arguments made about the path from belief to unbelief which is another thing the book made clearer than the film. This is a masterpiece and a classic for a reason, if you haven't experienced the war over Regan MacNeil's soul then I urge you to witness it for yourself.
5/5 stars.
