It's the time of year where I try to pack in reading around college basketball. Do I care about the sport the rest of the year? Nope, but now it's good to find either an anthology/collection or a book with short chapters where I can easily take a break and not feel like a refresher is needed when I pick my book back up :)

KIDS ARE HELL edited by Theresa Scott-Matthews

1. I find kids creepy. They’re more in-tune to the ‘other side’ and they’re just unsettling. So, seeing this anthology with 22 different stories about the creepiness of children, I knew this would be a perfect read for me. There are all kinds of stories in here – classic horror, weird horror, holiday horror, you name it, there’s something in these pages to satisfy. I truly loved the variety!

2. Man, I’m glad I’m not a parent after reading this. There were some truly disturbing stories where I can’t imagine sleeping peacefully in the room next to a child after reading them. Nope. I don’t think they’re as innocent as everyone seems to think 😉

3. Because the variety in story type, there’s something for everyone’s taste in this one. That said, it can also mean that not every story will resonate with every reader. There were a few that I just couldn’t vibe with, but even those weren’t ‘bad’. I’d say the lowest star story in here would be a 2-star, a solid number of 3-star stories, and a fair amount of 4 and 5. My absolute favorite, that is still sticking with me, is Halloween-themed and has not left my head since I finished it a few weeks ago. It has actually weaseled its way into a dream or two, so I’m going to highly recommend picking this antho up, even if just for this one story alone!
