This week's review is something a little different. I wasn't sure what this book was going to turn out to be, but I saw it on a list of books filled with feminine rage, so I needed to read it!

RISING by Nelle Nikole

1. I wouldn’t personally categorize this as horror, per se, but it is post-apocalyptic, dark, and includes zombies, so it feels right to include it on UDH. This would be a good read for fans of ‘The Last of Us’ or anyone who enjoys zombie plots or dystopian/post-apocalyptic storylines.

2. I don’t usually do much of a premise/rundown of the plot in my reviews, but I’m guessing this book isn’t on many people’s radars, so I thought I’d give it a shot this time. After a mystery illness either grants those affected with new and interesting powers or turns them into zombie-esque killing machines. Unfortunately, most of the population is turned to zombies so those who aren’t need to harness their new abilities and build safe communities throughout the United States. The zombies are dangerous, but pretty mindless; they haven’t been able to band together or plan…until now. Add a mysterious stranger and war between the communities and you have a recipe for action.

3. This is the first of a series. I completely didn’t realize this when I started reading, I thought it was a standalone book, so I wasn’t planning on continuing the series. Toward the end there was a twist that has me interested to see where Nikole goes with the plot. I also really loved many of the characters so even though I expected this to be just a one and done book, I’m gonna need to follow them at least into the next installment. Admittedly, this wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, but I had a lot of fun with it and the characters really burrowed their ways into my heart.

Recommend if you’re looking for something a little different!
