Something about life right now, the constant feelings of anger and dread, made me crave a great revenge story, so I went with an anthology filled to the brim with satisfying stories of reaping what you sow.

HARVESTED: AN ANTHOLOGY OF REAPING WHAT YOU SOW presented by From the Ashes

1. 15 tales of revenge, karma, comeuppance, whatever you call it…15 beautiful tales of people getting what they deserve are contained within these pages. Man, what a satisfying ride!

2. Over half of these stories were either a 4 or 5-star for me, with only one being a 2-star, meaning the vast majority is 3 or above, which is a phenomenal feat in my opinion. I’m not surprised though; my introduction to independent horror included the first in the Books of Horror Community Anthologies, so I know RJ knows how to cultivate a mean TOC.

3. My absolute favorite of the 15 stories is ‘Drown’ from Stephanie Scissom. The ending of this story tore my damn heart out, which is exactly what she did to me with Smilin’ Sam (her novella). Everything I’ve read from her is an emotional rollercoaster that hits me where it counts. I love my horror with a side of emotional trauma.

4. Taking a complete 180 from a punch to the heart - if you’re familiar with the independent horror community, there are a couple stories that hit very close to home and are quite hilarious (cough, M. Ennenbach, cough). Dark humor is a huge part of this anthology. Of course it is, revenge is not only satisfying, it’s funny. Some authors, like Megan Stockton and Colt Skinner, you expect it from, others like Eric Butler throw some surprising hilarity into their stories.

5. There’s something for everybody in these pages. If you like a revenge story, I’d highly recommend this antho!
