7/7...It's a lucky day! Okay, maybe that would require one more 7, but I have 2 reviews for you today, so perhaps it is lucky anyway?!

HOUSE OF ROT by Danger Slater

1. Disgusting and fun with a much deeper meaning. This story will make you think and stick with you for quite a while, which are my favorite types of books. Can't stop thinking about a book, character, or plot point? That's how you know it's good! Which, honestly, I'm so happy for because this was purely a cover buy for me. I thought the cover was so gorgeous and loved the color scheme so much I wanted it on my shelf. Getting a good story along with the cover is a huge plus.

2. Bizarro body horror and freaky fungus abound in this novella. If you’re squeamish about either of those things, I’d avoid this one, but if you can handle a little a lot of fuzzy mold and mushrooms growing in places they really shouldn’t be growing, I do recommend this read. You may start to feel a little trapped, but it's nothing compared to what Myles and Ellie are feeling.

3. This novella has, quite possibly, one of my least favorite and most incredibly frustrating characters I’ve read in quite some time - the neighbor, Brad. I feel like Brad is everything unlikable about humans all wrapped up into one self-centered jerk, but then again is he real? Is anything real? Seriously, I’m unsure.

4. There are a lot of meanings one can derive from this story, but one thing stuck with me throughout; nature will always prevail. Humans can show up, develop, and overrun nature for a period of time, but the Earth was there before us, and she’ll be there far after.

THE VET by Candace Nola

This one is super short – I devoured it in about 30 minutes one afternoon. If you are an animal lover and often think those who mistreat animals should get a dose of their own medicine, this short story is for you. 100% my kind of revenge story!
